Dr. Ritchie N. Stevens, Chief Medical Officer of 5D Cancer Services
Chief Medical Officer

Ritchie N. Stevens, M.D.

Board-Certified Radiation Oncologist

Dr. Stevens grew up a violinist in Northern Colorado, the son of a university music professor and an entomologist. On a music scholarship he attended Colorado State University, where he also competed on the varsity tennis team. He earned his M.D. from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1986, completed an internship at Pacific Presbyterian Medical Center in San Francisco, and finished his residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of California, Irvine in 1990 — training alongside world-renowned brachytherapist Dr. Nisar Syed in Long Beach and spending nearly a year at the City of Hope Medical Center in Duarte, CA.

In October 1990 he joined Radiology Specialists in the Las Vegas valley. Based at Sunrise Hospital, his expertise in brachytherapy quickly grew into one of the largest radiation implant practices in the western United States, focusing on prostate (LDR and HDR) and gynecologic malignancies. For three decades his services were a dominant force in Radiation Oncology in Southern Nevada.

In the fall of 2022, Dr. Stevens retired from clinical practice after 32 years to join the Executive Development Team as Chief Medical Officer of Access Radiation Oncology, the parent organization of 5D Cancer Services. With a goal of expanding access to advanced therapies for greater numbers of patients, this position allows him to further the established momentum of hypofractionation and adaptive therapies — ultimately improving cancer outcomes and treatment-related morbidity through MR-guided Radiation Therapy techniques (MRgRT).

Treatment Philosophy

Patient-first cancer care

At 5D Cancer Services, our approach is grounded in patient education and convenience. We believe every patient deserves to fully understand their diagnosis, their treatment options, and what to expect at every step — because informed patients make better decisions and have better outcomes.

Our approach centers on embracing technological advancements like the Akesis Gemini 360 to deliver superior outcomes, diminished side effects, and significantly shortened treatment times. Where conventional radiation might require 20–45 treatments over 5–9 weeks, our physicians and staff frequently treat patients in as few as 5 sessions over a single week using adaptive SBRT.

"My goal is to give every patient access to the most advanced treatment available — with the least disruption to their life. Adaptive radiotherapy makes that possible."

— Ritchie N. Stevens, M.D.
